Santander entered consumer finance business in the seventies, when creating Bansafina (1972) and Hispamer (1978).
In 1987, Santander started international expansion in the consumer credit segment through the acquisition of CC Bank in Germany.
After integrating in 2002 the consumer finance business in Santander Consumer Finance, it continued its expansion through further acquisitions achieving presence in 15 countries. The latest acquisitions since 2008 were RBS's European consumer finance business unit - Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands-, GE's European consumer finance business unit - Germany, Austria, UK and Finland -, AIG's business unit in Poland, SEB's retail business in Germany, FECI in Spain and GE's consumer finance business in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. In addition, Santander Consumer Finance signed in 2014 a collaboration agreement with Banque PSA Finance which covers 11 European countries.
